It was a cold and foggy morning as I wondered the National Mall in Washington, DC. The stark contrast of this scene of the Washington Monument immediately caught my eye. Had it been Spring I would have likely walked right by as the leaves would have blocked this unique view. The low lying fog provided an eerie and unique backdrop that lends to the contrast and composition of the scene. The trees, their branches reaching up and across the composition, reminded me of the branches of government and mark the passage time since 1848.

I often wonder what dad appeared to be similing about (you can see a hint of a twinkle in his eye) and the son just feels to have a reflective tone about him.
